This Saturday, May 19th, is the annual Lake County Pet Expo at the fairgrounds in Crown Point, IN. Stop by from 10-4 with your family (dogs welcome!) and visit the many rescues, pet vendors and medical services available.
ABRA will be administering microchips for any dog for $20! If you’re dog isn’t microchipped yet, now is the time to do so!
Come see ABRA’s adoptable pups this Saturday, April 28th at Porter County Animal Shelter’s 15th Annual Be Kind to Animals Event! Open to the public from 10am-4pm and four-legged visitors welcome! There will be several rescues, vendors and pet fanatics in attendance.
We’ll have a large group of our fosters out; stop by for some sloppy kisses and enjoy a day with your family! The event is located in the Porter County Fairgrounds in Valpo, IN.

The weather is finally getting nice out! We’ll be back at our home base – Pet Supplies Plus in Dyer, IN. Come join us this Sunday March 18th from 11am-2pm outside of PSP! We’ll have several dogs out and will be collecting donations for our dogs in need.

It’s time for Carson’s semi-annual Community Day Sale! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We currently have 5 heartworm positive dogs, a diabetic dog, some seniors and lots of other dogs that require vetting, food, etc. We will be selling Carson’s coupon books for $5. The books are good for the last weekend of April and include a $10 off any purchase of $10 or more coupon – so it pays for itself. ABRA gets to keep the entire $5 for each book we sell. It’s a win-win! We’ll be out at Carson’s in Hobart, IN almost every weekend between now and then so come on out and see us at the south entrance and pet our adorable pooches. Mack has been in foster care for a few months and could really use a permanent home. Mack is a sweetheart who is learning the basics of being a dog. His elderly owner was forced to surrender him because she was living in deplorable conditions, so Mack was sent to animal control. He is living with cats and other dogs in an adult only home. Mack spent a month in boarding because we didn’t have room for him in a foster home, but he’s now with a foster family and is doing good. He is still very unsocliazed and will need a patient owner dedicated to giving him the best chance possible. He was also brought in with heartworms. If you can’t adopt, please help by donating to his care on our donation page.
If you’re looking for a new journey this winter, consider fostering a homeless animal. ABRA has several in boarding that have been dreaming of a foster home for a very long time – especially Charm. With each foster this rescue group gains, it’s one life saved.
Pass the word on if you know anyone looking to foster (or adopt!). Fostering is incredibly rewarding – just ask any one of our fosters! ABRA provides food, supplies and medical attention if necessary.

The winter is a slow time for events, but we will start-up again at Pet Supplies Plus in Dyer, IN around mid-February. We are also selling the Carson’s Community Day booklets for $5 for their big sale this spring, so we’ll be out at the mall every weekend with a few furry friends looking for homes!
As always, you don’t need an event to meet a dog!

Often times people need to add something small to make an order $25 for free shipping. We have lots of small orders that can do just that! You can have it delivered directly to us or to you to donate at one of our events! Every little bit helps!
